Building Regulations - What are they and why
do we need them?
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) makes Building
Regulations under the powers of the Building Act 1984. This Act
also gives power to Local Authorities to ensure that the requirements
of Building Regulations are met. Scotland has its own Regulations.
Building Regulations are necessary to ensure that the minimum
standards of design and construction for new buildings, alterations
and extensions are met. The Standards:
