A strong educational background
supports growth in the local economy through offering opportunities
for many different skills and grows
the economy in a stable way that is less vulnerable to market variations
in any one industry type.

are in the Borough.
Runnymede objectives and indicators
Runnymede's sustainability objective is to raise educational achievement
levels across the region and develop opportunities for everyone
to acquire the skills to find and remain in work.
There is a fairly even range of different levels of qualifications
across the borough, although the average Level 2 and 3 qualification
standard compared to the rest of the UK. Whilst the majority of
Runnymede ranks in the top two quartiles of the country, there are
small pockets of low educational levels in parts of Chertsey St
Anns, Englefield Green West and Addlestone North. Chertsey St Anns
is ranked at 3,144 out of 32,482, where 1 is the most deprived in
the country.
The number of adults with poor literacy and numeracy is low compared
to the South East and Surrey averages. Map 1.2 describes the different
types of educational facilities in the borough, and their proximity
to settlements.
Runnymede actions
Although Runnymede Council is not directly linked to its schools,
it works in partnership with them in a number of ways particularly
the Yellow
School Bus programme and encouraging
Eco Schools participation.
