    Waste

Waste is generated through the every day actions of individuals and organisations; strategies for managing this waste are required as landfill availability reduces. It is possible for every individual or group to find ways of reducing, reusing and recycling items that would otherwise be thrown away.

Have a look at Your Runnymede to see what you can do to reduce, reuse and recycle your waste.

Runnymede objectives and indicators

Runnymede's sustainability objective is to reduce waste generation and disposal, and achieve the sustainable management of waste.

Runnymede's residents produce 0.25million tonnes of waste per year, or an average of 320kgs of domestic waste per person; of this 14% is currently recycled. This compares well to a national average for domestic recycling of 11%.

Runnymede actions

The Council contributes to this sustainability objective through an environment policy, through ensuring planning policies in the new Local Development Framework cover waste issues and through recycling and home composting schemes.
