THE DANGER ZONE
The area within 3 metres of the yellow school buses is known as the Danger Zone. In this area it can be difficult for the driver to see you. The most dangerous parts of the Danger Zone are immediately in front and behind the bus. Always move away from these areas as quickly as possible and try to ensure that the bus driver can see you, and you can see the driver.
STUDENT CODE• Make sure
you are at the bus stop five minutes before the bus is due. Last minute rushing
to catch the bus can cause accidents.
• Stand well away from the kerb while you are waiting for the bus and
don't push or shove. Stay out of the 3m Danger Zone around the bus.
• You must present your Yellow Bus pass to the driver before you take
your seat. Students without a valid or up-to-date pass will not normally be
allowed to travel.
• Wear your lap belts throughout the journey to and from school.
• Sit down at all times when the bus is moving, and don't get up until
the bus has come to a complete stop.• Talk but don't shout - too much
noise can distract the driver.
• If you need to talk to the driver during the journey, for example if
you are feeling unwell, try to wait until the bus stops.
• Never touch the emergency door unless instructed to by the driver in
the event of an emergency.
• Don't throw anything within the bus, or out of the windows - this can
be extremely dangerous.
• Put your bag under your seat, where no one can trip over it.
• When you leave the bus, move away from it so that the driver can see
if it's safe to drive off. Stay out of the Danger Zone around the bus.
• If you have to cross the road, wait until the bus has driven off and
you can see the road is clear. Never cross in front of the bus.
• If you drop something under or near the bus, tell the driver first.
Never try to pick it up because the driver may not be able to see you. Stay
out of the Danger Zone around the bus.
• Smoking is not allowed on the Yellow School bus.
• Good behaviour is essential for the safety of all passengers and the
driver.
• Bad behaviour compromises safety and may result in the loss of your
seat on the bus.
• Vandalism will also not be tolerated and will result in instant exclusion
from the bus.
