WHEN AND HOW YOU CAN PAY YOUR
COUNCIL TAX/NATIONAL NON DOMESTIC RATE

Information regarding all the payment options available is given below, including a new facility to pay your Council Tax in cash at retail outlets offering the Paypoint facility (please note that this payment facility is not available for payment of National Non Domestic Rates.)

WHEN IT NEEDS TO BE PAID

Your monthly instalment plan is shown on the bottom of your Council Tax/NNDR bill. Please remember that you must pay the amount shown on your bill on or before the 1st of each month. A full year’s Council Tax/NNDR is payable over 10 monthly instalments if the demand is issued on or before 30th April each year.

HOW TO PAY

There are a number of ways you can pay, although the Council’s preferred method is Direct Debit. This is the most cost effective way of collecting the Council Tax/NNDR and enables the authority to keep the Council Tax as low as possible. Please note that from the 1st October 2005 the 1.55% administrative charge that is incurred on credit card payments will be passed on to the customer.

Direct Debits: - As mentioned above, this is the most cost effective way of paying, for you and the Council. Payment books and reminder notices do not need to be printed. Queuing to pay at the bank or post office will be unnecessary, saving you time. What could be simpler!

You will be given a minimum of 10 days notice of the first instalment to be collected and also of any changes in the amount to be collected.

Direct Debits are usually debited from your account on the 1st of the month. If this falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank holiday it will be debited from your account on the next working day of the month.

You are given a guarantee by your Bank or Building Society stating that if an error is made, you will receive a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your branch.

By Post: - Enter the amount enclosed on the payment slip, sign and date it and send your cheque to the Director of Finance, Runnymede Borough Council, Civil Offices, Station Road, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 2AH.

Your cheque must be made payable to Runnymede Borough Council and crossed. Please write your Council Tax/NNDR account number on the back of the cheque. A receipt will not be issued unless specifically requested.

Payment At The Post Office:- If you wish to pay at the Post Office, sign and date the payment slip, enter the amount to be paid and hand the book to the Cashier with your remittance. Your book will be receipt stamped for you. Payments made by cheque must be made payable to Post Office Ltd and crossed. Please note that if you use this facility a payment can take up to 10 days to reach the Council. You must therefore make sure that you pay well before the 1st of each month.

Payment At The Bank:- Enter the amount to be paid on the payment slip, sign and date it and hand the book to the Cashier with your remittance. Your book will be receipt stamped for you. Payment made by cheque must be made payable to Runnymede Borough Council and crossed. If you do not hold an account at the Bank where you are making payment a fee may be charged.

Bankers Order: - This method is an expensive way for the Council to collect Council Tax/NNDR and is considerably more expensive than Direct Debit. The cost of collection is, of course, reflected in the level of Council Tax payable.

Bankers Order is an agreement between yourself and your Bank. The Council is unable to notify the Bank directly of payment amounts or of any changes to your liability, unlike Direct Debit. Please remember when completing the form that payment is due on or before the 1st of every month. It is your responsibility to ensure you set this up with your Bank each year and to quote the correct payment details, stating the amount and frequency of the payments due.
