Dr Richard Burns of Vivendi water UK, parent company of Three Valley's Water, presenting the awards.
The first Runnymede Business Awards for Environmental Responsibility sponsored by Three Valley's water took place on Tuesday 11th September at the Runnymede Business Partnership Forum meeting. The judging panel - made up of specialists across the board in environment and business - engaged in heated debates prior to deciding the final winners from a selection of top class entrants. This years victorious companies are:

Urban Science International - awarded Highly Commended at Knight Level. Urban Science international are an automotive distribution consultant, based in Chertsey. They were recognised for their efforts in recycling and purchasing environmentally friendly goods.

Joe Soaps - awarded Knight Level. Joe Soaps, an Egham based launderette, demonstrated that even in the smallest of businesses it is possible to make significant differences. They addressed energy efficiency issues when replacing equipment. By replacing their old dryers with energy efficient models, they reduced their energy usage by approximately 40%.

Due to stiff competition the Baron Level award went to two businesses;

The White Lodge Centre - a charity supporting disabled children and adults and their families/carers based in Chertsey has shown a strong commitment to paper recycling to the extent of recycling 20.8 tonnes last year!! Staffs at the centre actively encourage parents and volunteers to bring their newspaper and paper waste from home for recycling, and the centre provides a recycling service to local businesses.
