The Government have set national targets to reduce emissions, to which Runnymede Borough Council has a duty and desire to meet. The business industry can play a major role in meeting these targets, and is increasingly having to comply with statutory and non-statutory legislation.

Businesses are also becoming more ethically and socially aware, with the increasing importance placed on involvement in corporate commitment schemes, like Corporate Social Responsibility. Companies, which are quick to recognise their need to meet demanding social and environmental expectations, and act accordingly, are thought to have a competitive advantage in the market.
