LEISURE FACILITIES

In addition to the wide range of facilities offered by the Borough Council, Runnymede also has many privately owned recreational facilities within its area. These include:

FOXHILLS COUNTRY CLUB

This is situated at Ottershaw, a few miles away from Junction 11 on the M25. It is one of Surrey's major leisure facilities, set in 400 acres of parkland. The original building, the Manor House, is in Jacobean style and was built in 1840. Foxhills has two championship golf courses in addition to a 9 hole executive course. Also included in the facilities are eight all weather tennis and four squash courts, two pools (indoor and outdoor), clubhouse and extensive health suite with gym.

The Manor House Restuarant is open to the public, serving lunch and dinner each day. The complex also has major facilities for private dining and many family events, including weddings and conferences.

THORPE PARK

Thorpe Park - Britain's first Theme Park - opened fully in 1979, and has gone from strength to strength. The venue is now recognised as one of Europe's leading family leisure parks, attracting one million visitors every year.

There are over 70 attractions and shows including favourites such as Logger's Leap, Thunder River, The Flying Fish, Carousel Kingdom and the Family Tea Cup Ride. Children in particular love Thorpe Farm where they can actually touch and watch traditional breeds of cows, pigs, sheep and goats and see a 1930's farm in action. Live entertainment is always popular and can be found in the 630 seat Park Palladium Theatre.
New attractions and rides are added every year and a full day should be allowed for a visit as there is so much to see and do.

Thorpe Park is open from Easter to October, 10.00am to 5.00pm (6.00pm in high season) and one price admission includes all attractions with free parking for visitors.

PENTON HOOK MARINA

Penton Hook Marina is located on one of the most pleasant reaches of the River Thames, between Chertsey and Staines.

Established in 1960 it is one of Britain's largest and best equipped marinas, and provides first class mooring facilities for the private boat owner. There are berths for up to 700 craft on 30 acres of sheltered water, and service and store facilities cover a further 10 acres. The marina is connected to the River Thames by a deep water channel which allows unrestricted access to the river at all times. Each craft has an individual berth beside a pontoon running either from one of the floating piers or alongside a grass bank thus enabling every owner to walk from his boat to shore. All types of craft can be accommodated from sailing dinghies and day boats to 70ft ocean-going yachts.

There is a comprehensive range of facilities under the supervision of experienced resident management staff.
