WENTWORTH CLUB

The prestigious Wentworth Golf Club is one of England's premier sporting venues. The East and West courses, measuring 6,176 yards and 6,969 yards respectively, were laid out in 1924, and have withstood the test of amateur and professional tournaments over the years with little modification. The first Curtis Cup match between ladies from Great Britian/Ireland and the USA was played on the East Course in 1933 and the forerunner of the Ryder Cup matches between professionals from Great Britain/Ireland and the USA was played on the West Course in 1926.

Many professional and amateur events have been played over these courses each year since their inception and the West Course is now the permanent home of the World Matchplay Championship which is held in October each year and televised throughout the world.

An additional 18 hole golf course known as the Edinburgh Course was opened in July 1990. It measures 6,979 yards from the championship tees, and was designed by John Jacobs in conjunction with Gary Player and Bernard Gallacher. In addition a new 9 hole Executive Short Course has been designed and is now in operation.

The tennis facilities at the club have been totally updated, with a Grand Club House, 8 lawn courts, 3 acrylic, 2 french clay and 4 all weather courts. There is also an outdoor swimming pool near the Club House which is open for members and their guests during the summer months.
