Towns & Villages in Runnymede

LYNE
A mile west of Chertsey and to the North of the Botley Park - St.Peters Hospital and Homewood Trust Complex, is Lyne.

Lyne is a village that is surprisingly rural in appearance with well farmed land on all sides. One of the local farms - Redlands - is half timbered of the 15th to 17th Centuries.

The church - Holy Trinity, like most of the village, is Victorian and dates from 1849. It is cruciform in plan and is set in a pleasantly landscaped churchyard with tall evergreens.

Also at Lyne, but no longer open to the public, is Almner Priory, a house partly dated from 1830 and partly from Mediaeval times.

It was formerly the almoner's house of Chertsey Abbey and it has a tall square brick dovecote in it's grounds.
In recent years the village has suffered by the sub-division of the farming land into smaller plots with attendant buildings.
